Motocross of Nations

One weekend a year. Three riders per nation. One team trophy.

Belgium takes the Nations trophy

Nobody on Team Belgium won a race. They just kept stacking finishes. Lucas Coenen, Liam Everts, and Sacha Coenen combined for 23 points, enough to beat Spain by three and end Belgium's MXoN title drought.

The format

How MXoN works

Motocross of Nations is one annual team event. Each country brings one rider for MXGP, one for MX2, and one for Open. Sunday has three combined-class races: MXGP + MX2, MX2 + Open, and MXGP + Open. Each rider lines up twice.

Five scores count.

Add each team's six finishing positions, drop its worst result, and the lowest five-score total wins. That's why one brilliant ride alone can't carry the trophy.

The rides that mattered

Three teams, three different stories

Belgium: steady all day

Lucas Coenen went 3-5, Liam Everts went 4-4, and Sacha Coenen went 12-7. Drop the 12th and the five counting scores add up to 23.

Spain: close to the win

Jorge Prado finished 2-2 to win MXGP, while Guillem Farrés went 4-5 to win MX2. Spain scored 26 and earned its first MXoN podium.

Netherlands: two moto wins

Jeffrey Herlings won both races he entered and took the Open class. The Dutch finished third in the team standings with 34 points.

USA: one point from fourth

Cooper Webb went 6-6, Julien Beaumer 10-17, and Levi Kitchen 25-14. Kitchen's 25th was dropped, leaving Team USA fifth on 53 points, one behind Latvia.
